Goals - 2009-2012 tech plan ROLE OF THE RYE SCHOOL DISTRICT TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE The technology committee will evaluate the technologies that are in place as to their relevance toward fulfilling our vision and meeting our goals. Our vision to further our goals will be maintained or enhanced and those that are inadequate or missing will be readjusted to meet our technology needs. The technology committee will continually monitor and attempt to resolve technology issues. The technology committee will survey needs, suggest new technologies, evaluate successes and failures, and continue to develop a technology plan for the upcoming years. An evaluation of the plan to assess our progress will be completed yearly in the Spring. The Technology Committee has established the following goals for our district to be achieve: Add: who benefits – special ed, administration, etc… GOALS
1)Goal: To establish a projected cycle/timeline for the procurement and replacement/upgrade of hardware/software. Objectives: ·Plan and budget for school wide upgrades of hardware/software. ·Allow for upgrades to prevent the problems caused by mixing different generations of hardware/ software. ·Evaluate the budget yearly and project for future years. ·Maintain an acceptable ratio of computers to students of at least 1:5. ·Ensure the hardware, software, and infrastructure in each building is adequate and will be upgraded as needed.
2)Goal:To Ensure every student and staff member has access to technology as needed. Objectives: ·Provide laptops for every teacher. ·K-3: Provide sufficient computer access for students in classrooms,computer labs,and lap-top carts minimum of once per week. ·4-5: Provide sufficient computer access for studentsin classrooms,computer labs,and lap-top carts minimum of three per week. ·6-8: One to one laptop program ·Provide and require regular use of e-mail for all staff as the primary tool of communication. ·Ensure the administrative tools are available for school operations -- e.g. grades, budget, web pages, presentation applications, etc. ·Ensure teachers have access to necessary software to implement the curriculum (e.g. photo shop, word-processing, spreadsheets, etc. ·Establish a process for the identification and purchase of grade, curriculum and administrative software applications. ·Review and support the technology capacity of the Library. 3)Goal: To ensure a technology infrastructure within the schools, that can meet the needs of students and staff. Objectives: ·Ensure network (switches, WAP’s, etc..)and servers are sufficient. ·Connect two buildings. ·Outsource ISP to effective vendor ·Outsource Email and Webhosting providers ·Ensure adequate bandwidth to meet curriculum needs
4)Goal: To ensure staff have sufficient professional development to support effective curriculum. Objective: ·Establish and fund a position of technology integrator at RJH ·Budget for ongoing staff training in the use of technologies. ·Conduct after school and summer professional development opps. ·Establish a rubric of staff proficiency levels. ·Make the staff aware of School Board policies and legal issues regarding technology. 5) Goal: To enhance community collaboration through the use of technology. Objectives: ·Provide access to online resources (online databases, student assignments, etc). ·Maintain school and schoolboard websites. ·Offer technology classes for community members ·Showcase student work and activities. ·Enable wireless access to school guests.
